Check out our customer success kitList management refers to the process of managing reading lists or course reserves within academic libraries. Leganto is a system developed by Ex Libris, specifically designed for this purpose. Its functions include list creation, list organization, and collaboration, integration with library systems, accessibility and compliance, and analytics and data usage.
A list management system like Leganto, which is also an overall course resource management system, streamlines the process of providing access to relevant resources for academic courses, enhances collaboration, and ensures compliance with copyright and accessibility requirements.
Leganto drives teaching excellence and student success. Instructors save time and effort, and help their students succeed in their courses by easily assembling course resources of all types into a structured, annotated resource list that is embedded in the list management system. Faculty can then monitor student engagement and decide to reuse and modify the list term over term.
Instructors can engage students from within the course resource list and students access course materials through the list management system in a consistent way across all their courses. Leganto also provides library-generated links to on-campus assets and online resources, eliminating paywalls and broken links, and providing clear availability information about physical materials. This lowers costs and increases student affordability.
Leganto promotes the library as a teaching and learning partner. It enables the library to work collaboratively with teaching staff to assemble and organize quality course materials at low- or no-cost for students. Using Leganto as a course resource management system, the library is automatically informed about teaching needs, has streamlined workflows for addressing these needs, and can measure and report the library contribution to teaching and learning.
Yes. First of all, as a solution on the Ex Libris Higher Ed Platform, Leganto is tightly integrated with Alma, Primo and Rialto. Secondly, like all Ex Libris products, Leganto list management system offers a rich set of APIs for seamless integration with institutional and third-party systems. Leganto meets faculty and students where they are, by embedding relevant library resources and services directly into the learning management system.
Leganto was initially developed with several customer partners and the Ex Libris team continues to work closely with customers as the product evolves. Collaboration takes place through established channels such as the PWG, NERS and Idea Exchange, as well as through focus group and ad hoc discussions. Input from the community is a key driver of Leganto development.
Leganto lives on the Ex Libris Higher Ed Platform, where it enjoys all the data security and privacy measures of the Alma environment. For example, unique content is protected by the Amazon S3 cloud storage service, file integrity is continually verified, and any checksum discrepancies are automatically corrected. These safeguards are integral to Alma, relieving the library of all set-up and maintenance worries.
Absolutely not! Leganto includes an easy-to-use, intuitive end-user interface for instructors and students, which is seamlessly embedded in their institution’s learning management system. Librarians manage course materials easily through the course resource management system, and administer Leganto through Alma, the system that they use every day.
Certainly. Leganto allows faculty to easily incorporate OER into their course resource lists. The Ex Libris Central Discovery Index includes multiple open access and OER collections – such as Open SUNY, OpenStax, and Open Textbook Library – which are fully discoverable in Leganto. Leganto automatically scans these OER collections and suggests relevant resources for instructors to include in their course resource lists.
Leganto as a course resource management system helps save money on course materials by offering streamlined access to resources available within the library’s collection or freely available as open access resources.
